Crime prevention advice Neighbourhood Watch Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime reduction initiatives ever and the largest voluntary organisations in the country. Each watch group consists of a number of households who work together to improve their area, combat crime and look after each other. In Avon and Somerset there are about 5,000 Neighbourhood Watch schemes which cover some thirty percent of households in the Force area. This includes around 750 Neighbourhood Watch schemes in Somerset East covering approximately 33,000 households and around 1140 Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in Somerset West covering approximately 27,000 households. The Neighbourhood Watch schemes can have a vital role in preventing crime, statistics show you are four times less likely to be burgled if you are a member of a scheme.
