A photograph of a poster advertising the No Cold Calling Zone The No Cold Calling zone is a partnership scheme between residents, Trading Standards, Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Sedgemoor District Council (in this case).

The aim is to:

  • deter cold callers from just turning up on peoople's doorsteps;
  • make people feel safer in their own homes, and ultimately
  • to reuce the chancees of people becoming victims of burglary/distraction burglary.

Initially residents who would like the scheme in the area in which they live, contact the police or council.

Warning signs are placed on lamp posts or similar, indicating that it is a NCCZ designated area and that cold callers are not welcome. Residents are also given stickers to place in their windows.

Residents are encouraged to notify the police immeidately of any incidents, or callers. Trading Standards are also notified accordingly and will take action if appropriate.
