Home Safety Action Group

A Somerset partnership scheme between the Police, the Health Service, Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Age Concern, Care Direct and various other Home Improvement Agencies has formed the 'Home Safety Action Group'.

The aim of this scheme is allow for an across the board referral service for those who work within our communities visiting elderly or vulnerable people.

For example, when a community nurse visits a vulnerable patient and notices that there is no smoke alarm in the house, or the doors or windows don't appear very secure, they are able to make a referral to the Fire Service and the Police by completing a simple form. The scheme is then co-ordinated by Age Concern Somerset.

The scheme is proving to be a great success and is being copied in other areas across the country.
